The lineup lacks a bona fide leadoff hitter and a legitimate power hitter in the heart of the lineup, let alone two or three you can rely on. They score runs in different ways but there's no consistency. Forget about a solidified 5 man pitching rotation. They don't even have an Ace to this pitching staff. I'm all about innovation and baseball freakanomics, however, you still need a roster of talented professionals that produce results. This Cubs team isn't it. They have some nice pieces in place but they're far from a contender.

First things first: I’m a Brewers fan who was disappointed that Counsell went to Cubs, but don’t hold any hard feelings. He was not a fiery manager (nor his successor) but the great dugout vibes before/since is the players’ doing-and Counsell and Murphy leaving them alone. Maybe the difference is the players who play like the underdogs they (perhaps mistakenly by the media) are. BTW Counsell did win a division playoff in 2018 (and lost NLCS to L.A. in 7 games) but 0-for since.
